These paintings imagine a reality where the structures built in the wake of climate change and environmental collapse have become our world’s new firmaments -- a conception within religous cosmologies where a firmament physically separated earth from the ocean of heaven. The earth’s atmosphere is as much a human-built structure as the biodomes and greenhouses we need to grow our food.
The gridding and organic components of the work suggest that our natural and built worlds are intertwined: precarious systems on the verge of collapse. The paintings in the Firmament Series render these systems into collisions of weather, climate infrastructure, and perspective.
